A whopping 30,000 new toys have been donated to the Ohio Toys Drive just in time for Christmas.
Last week, dozens of volunteers gathered at Austintown Plaza near Youngstown to sort out the problem. thousands of The donations included more than 450 bicycles and electric scooters for children in need, WKBN reported.
Longtime volunteer Ken Jakubec, who has been with Toys for Tots for 15 years, explained how the number of donations has increased dramatically over the past few years.
“When I started, we were giving out 5,000 toys. Last year we gave out 15,280 toys in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, which is a huge amount, and it continues to grow. , donations to Mahoning and Trumbull counties are always great,” Jakubek told the outlet. “We're not two of the wealthiest counties in Ohio, but in each district where we collect toys, we're often in the top four for toys collected. We're proud of that.”
The toys will be sorted based on age and gender, and those not suitable for the drive will be given to the Salvation Army, the outlet said.
