31-year-old shooter targets police while escaping a traffic stop in NYC

A man, evading a traffic stop on Staten Island, fired at a police cruiser, striking it hard, as reported by law enforcement sources.

The NYPD stated that the officers inside were fortunate; they didn’t get hit by the bullet but were sent to the hospital due to injuries from shattered glass.

This all unfolded around 7:30 PM when officers pulled over the suspect’s Nissan SUV for a traffic infraction near 290 Port Richmond Avenue.

Shortly afterward, the suspect encountered another marked NYPD vehicle on Port Richmond Avenue.

He collided with the police car and discharged his weapon at it, although there were no officers present in that vehicle.

Interestingly, the NYPD confirmed that the officers didn’t shoot back.

Authorities clarified that the second police vehicle was unrelated to the prior pursuit.

The man, who was on parole for a previous incident in Manhattan, was apprehended, and police found two firearms inside the Nissan.

While he was taken to a nearby hospital, it seems his injuries weren’t severe, according to law enforcement sources.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed as of Sunday night.
