Recall of Vitamins and Supplements Due to Safety Issues

Over 350,000 vitamins and supplements are being recalled because of improper packaging. This situation is particularly concerning as federal regulators have indicated that it could pose a “risk of serious injury or death,” especially to children.

VitaQuest International, based in New Jersey, has voluntarily recalled about 356,140 dietary supplements that contain iron. The main issue here is the lack of child-safe packaging, which is a requirement under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, as stated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The commission emphasized that, given the iron content, these supplements must be securely packaged to prevent accidental ingestion by young children.

“The absence of proper packaging means that if a child manages to get into the product, there could be serious health risks, including poisoning,” the warning explained.

VitaQuest International clarified that the intention behind the packaging was to stop young kids from accidentally consuming harmful amounts that could lead to iron toxicity. They also reassured consumers that their product formulation and ingredients were not under scrutiny — the only issue was the child-safety feature.

While the products were declared safe when used as intended, the recall serves as a precautionary measure to safeguard children from the potential dangers of accessing these supplements. This recall includes prenatal vitamins and supplements designed for those who have undergone bariatric surgery, among others. Interestingly, they also offer a kid-friendly coffee alternative, Zenbean Kids Café Instant Coffee + Nutrition Latte, in various flavors.

The affected products were available under several brands, including Arey, Bari Life, Bird&Be, Biote, Dr. Fuhrman, NuLife, HMR, Bariatric Pal, Noevir, Zenbean, and Sakara.

These products were sold between April 2023 and February 2026 at various retailers such as Credo Beauty, Erewhon, Healf, Nutrition World, The Vitamin Shoppe, Ulta Beauty, and online platforms like Amazon for prices ranging from $13 to $130, depending on the brand and size.

Consumers are urged to keep these supplements out of children’s reach and to reach out to VitaQuest International for guidance on obtaining a free child-safe replacement cap or storage solution.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries linked to the recalled products.
