At least 36 people died this weekend in a devastating cross-country storm. It took 40 tornadoes across eight states in the South and Midwest, destroying homes, businesses and schools.
The death toll continues to grow as extreme weather and powerful tornadoes have left hundreds of thousands as the monster storm is expected to smash parts of the East Coast on Sunday.
The dynamic “high-risk” storm from Friday to Sunday drove at least 40 tornadoes in eight states, including Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Louisiana, Indiana and Tennessee.
Dallas County Sheriff Michael L. Grantham said Sunday that at least three people were killed in central Alabama, including an 82-year-old woman, when multiple tornadoes bulldozed the state.
Missouri has reported 12 deaths, most of the storm-stricken nation, from scattered twisters, thunderstorms and huge ails that have wreaked havoc in dozens of communities.
According to Missouri resident Dakota Henderson, five bodies were found scattered across the debris as rescuers desperately tried to save their locked-up neighbors on Friday.
“Last night was a very rough transaction, Henderson told the Associated Press on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Butler County Coroner Jim Akers described an “unrecognized house” in which one man was killed as “just a field of debris.”
“The floor was upside down. We were walking down the wall,” he told the Associated Press.
Six people have died in three counties in Mississippi, with three more missing late Saturday, Gov. Tate Reeves announced.
Meanwhile, in Troy, Alabama, it said it was a recreation center that had more than 200 people evacuated the storm as the burden was overnight strain from the storm.
Arkansas officials also confirmed three deaths, with Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared a state of emergency.
Sanders said 50 National Guard members and 40 state police are providing assistance, which could take weeks and even months in her state, but could take her to recover.
“Our goal is to help, support and care for local locals. I'll worry about the paperwork later,” Sanders said. I wrote it on x.
Duststorm, which spurred the system's strong winds as a tornado destroyed parts of the country, insisted on nearly a dozen lives on Friday.
Authorities say three people were killed in a car accident during Amarillo's dust storm in Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle.
Additionally, more than 130 fires have been reported across Oklahoma, with around 300 homes damaged or destroyed, Gov. Kevin Stitt said Saturday.
Tornado clocks are active in parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and Georgia as the powerful storm system moves east.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared an emergency on Sunday, predicting a storm shift, bringing quarantined tornadoes, hails and gusts of wind potential of 50-70 mph.
By Sunday, winds, tornadoes and heavy rains will be damaged and smashing the Carolina and Virginia coasts, according to the National Weather Service.

“Dangerous storms can move to SC after bedtime. If you are instructed to do so, take action and be prepared to find shelter.”
