A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in eastern Tennessee, with tremors felt as far away as Atlanta, Georgia.
The quake struck approximately 30 miles southwest of Knoxville, near Greenback, Tennessee, as noted by the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The depth of the earthquake was around 15.5 miles.
Meteorologists from news stations in Georgia and North Carolina also indicated they felt the shaking.
Gabriela Riley, a Georgia resident, described an unexpected experience while she and her husband were together. “I thought a giant aircraft flew right through the neighborhood,” she reported, “but my husband quickly said, ‘No, it’s definitely an earthquake!’” She recalled the ceiling fans in their house shaking for about 10 seconds.
This story is still developing, so further updates are anticipated.
