4 teenagers suspected of planning an Islamic extremist attack arrested in Germany

BERLIN (AP) – German authorities said Friday that four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of planning an attack on Islamic extremists.

Three of the suspects – two girls aged 15 and 16 and a boy aged 15 – are from different parts of Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia. The Düsseldorf city prosecutor’s office said they were arrested after a court issued a warrant over the Easter weekend.

The fourth suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, German news agency dpa reported.

Prosecutors said in a statement that the three people detained in western Germany declared their readiness to carry out an “Islamist terrorist attack” and are suspected of planning such an attack.
