A 44-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a careless driver in the Bronx. The incident occurred late Wednesday night when she was hit at the intersection of West 174th Street and Macombs Road in Morris Heights, around 11:30 PM, according to police.
The woman’s name has not been released, pending family notification. Officers reported that the driver didn’t stop after hitting her, continuing to speed down the driveway towards a parking lot.
She was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, located approximately two miles from the scene, but sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities are still searching for the driver, and so far, no arrests have been made, according to the NYPD.
This comes on the heels of two separate hit-and-runs in the Bronx and Brooklyn last month that resulted in one fatality and left three others injured. On July 20, a driver collided with three women on a Bronx sidewalk shortly after becoming involved in a confrontation with another group; fortunately, all three survived.
Earlier in July, a driver in Brooklyn struck two men who were crossing the street, resulting in their deaths. The 23-year-old driver from Staten Island, who had no prior arrests, was later apprehended at his home.
Additionally, authorities have noted an uptick in hit-and-run incidents, including a recent case where a driver allegedly ran over a car wash employee in late July and then fled the scene on foot.
