Discovery of Human Remains in Jalisco
Mexican officials have confirmed the discovery of 48 bags containing human remains in a clandestine grave located in the cartel-dominated state of Jalisco. This area is under the influence of the Cartel Jalisco New Generation, which has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the previous U.S. administration.
According to the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office, these remains were found at a hidden cemetery on the outskirts of Zapopan, a city near Guadalajara. The initial discovery occurred last month when NGOs, searching for mass graves, reported a suspected cartel killing site. Since then, authorities have collaborated with these organizations, utilizing heavy machinery to search the area for more potential victims.
The exact number of bodies in those bags remains unspecified, and authorities have not yet identified the victims. This situation underscores the brutal acts perpetrated by the CJNG, which is believed to be responsible for numerous murder scenes and thousands of kidnappings, many of which have gone unresolved.
In March, the Mexican government was embroiled in controversy when NGOs disclosed a large-scale killing site near Teuchitlán, Jalisco. Reports indicated that activists discovered a multitude of shoes and personal belongings belonging to victims of the cartel. It was suggested that this site functioned as a training camp for the CJNG, where individuals were lured in under false pretenses of employment, only to be coerced into violence or killed. Allegations surfaced that incinerators and ovens were found, purportedly used by cartel members for disposing of victims.
