The Times reported last week that President Trump shown privately He supports the idea of banning abortion after 16 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
Democrats quickly pounced on the report, accusing the former president of trying to hide his views on abortion. The Trump campaign did not address the reported remarks, but said it would “talk to both sides and negotiate a deal that satisfies everyone.”
“President Trump appointed strong constitutionalist federal judges and Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade and sent the decision back to the states,” campaign spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a statement. “It’s something other presidents have tried to do for more than 50 years,” he said, calling the Times report “fake news.”
