49ers Face Civil Rights Complaint Over Discriminatory Practices

The law firm America First Legal (AFL) has lodged a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against the San Francisco 49ers, claiming discriminatory employment practices.

Filed on Tuesday, the complaint accuses the team of engaging in “illegal recruitment and employment practices based on race and gender under the guise of ‘DEI.'” It argues that these actions violate Title VII, which includes claims of targeted recruitment based on demographics, racially exclusive employee resource groups, and involvement in minority-only coaching fellowships.

Will Scolinos, an advisor for the AFL, expressed concerns to Fox News Digital, emphasizing that sports should promote meritocracy, where success is based on talent and preparation rather than race or gender. He criticized the 49ers for seemingly departing from that principle.

The AFL has previously raised similar concerns regarding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ recruiting policies. Their complaint against the Dodgers asserts that the team’s employment methods are discriminatory, even while using inclusive language, alleging that they segregate or classify employees and applicants based on race, color, sex, or national origin.

Earlier this year, the former president signed executive orders intended to reduce DEI initiatives, instructing federal agencies to push back against such efforts in the private sector.

The 49ers have not yet provided a comment regarding the matter.
