49ers’ Deebo Samuel expected to play in NFC Championship game

The 49ers will have key pieces back for Sunday's home NFC Championship Game.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Friday that wide receiver Deebo Samuel has come off the injury report and is expected to play against the Lions.

“That's huge,” Shanahan said, according to NFL.com. “It was a little scary at the beginning of the week, but the fact that he was able to play his best today and didn't have any restrictions is definitely good for us.”

Samuel injured his shoulder early in last week's divisional round win over the Packers, missed practice on Wednesday and was limited in practice on Thursday.

But after trying it out Friday, Samuel plans to give it a shot at a ticket to the Super Bowl.

Samuel's presence in the lineup will be a welcome addition to the San Francisco lineup, which struggled most of the way in the 24-21 win over Green Bay without him.

Overall this season, the 49ers' offense is going the same way as Samuel.

When he was sidelined in both Weeks 7 and 8, the 49ers scored just 17 points in each game and lost both.

In those two games, quarterback Brock Purdy totaled two touchdowns and four interceptions.

But in games where Samuel took at least 50 percent of the team's offensive snaps, the 49ers went 12-1, losing only to the AFC's top-seeded Ravens on Christmas Day.

Without Samuel for much of the divisional playoff game, Purdy was mostly held to 252 yards and one touchdown.

Samuel had two catches for 24 yards and left the game for good.

The 28-year-old, who is known for his passing and rushing attacks, caught 60 passes for 892 yards and added 225 yards on the ground on 37 attempts.
