49ers’ Jake Moody drills longest field goal in Super Bowl history

His first Super Bowl score was historic.

On 3rd and 14, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy went deep for Deebo Samuel, but the pass was cut off in the end zone.

This forced the 49ers to settle for a field goal, leaving Jake Moody with only his name in the record books.

The University of Michigan graduate took the lead with a 55-yard field goal to give San Fran a 3-0 lead in the second quarter. It also turned out to be the longest field goal in Super Bowl history.

Moody surpassed that record by one yard. Steve Christie of the Buffalo Bills ran for 54 yards in Super Bowl XXVIII. However, the game did not end in the Bills’ favor, marking their fourth straight Super Bowl loss in recent years. In that Super Bowl, Emmitt Smith was named MVP for his 132-yard, two-touchdown performance on the ground, and the Dallas Cowboys won 30-13.

Moody was 21-of-25 from the field and 3-of-4 from 50 yards or more during the regular season.

The Kansas City Chiefs marched right down the field to get on the board, but Isaiah Pacheco fumbled in the red zone and the ball was returned to San Fran.
