Bill Belichick may be taking a year off from coaching in the NFL, but there are plenty of teams eager to bring him into their organizations and coaching staffs.

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, the San Francisco 49ers have also entered the race to acquire Belichick.

“I did. I threw it to him. He loves football so much, I don’t know what he’ll do … I can’t believe he’s not the head coach of the team right now,” Shanahan said Tuesday. “TK Show” podcast. “This is shocking because I know what I would do if I were the owner. The last thing I want to do is disrespect a guy like Bill Belichick.”

“But I knew he just loved ball, so I offered him anything he wanted to do (including defensive coordinator). I asked him, ‘Would you be interested?’ and he was very gracious and appreciative and politely declined.”

Belichick’s tenure with the New England Patriots came to an end earlier this year when he and the team agreed to part ways after six Super Bowl wins and two separate dynasties in the league.

Belichick was rumored to be a candidate for the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job, but that did not pan out.

Instead, Belichick will be making media appearances during the football season. He is reportedly set to appear on “The Pat McAfee Show” and “The Manningcast” this year.
