Fred Warner Suffers Ankle Injury During Game Against Buccaneers

During a game this past Sunday, Fred Warner, a standout linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, sustained a significant ankle injury. Unfortunately, he had to leave the field in an air cast while facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This injury unfolded in the first quarter. Buccaneers running back Rashard White was tackled by Ziair Brown, but in the process, Brown rolled into Warner, seemingly trapping his ankle beneath him. It was a tough moment that both teams could feel, as players quickly signaled for medical assistance. Tez Johnson, a receiver for the Buccaneers, looked on in disbelief and even touched Warner’s helmet.

Following the incident, the 49ers’ medical staff quickly placed Warner in an air cast while transporting him out of the area in a cart. His expression was one of shock as he glanced back at the field.

If this turns out to be a severe injury that sidelines Warner for the season, it would be a heavy blow for the 49ers. They are already grappling with the loss of key defensive players, including star defensive end Nick Bosa, who tore his ACL earlier in the season against the Arizona Cardinals. As the captain of the defense, Warner’s absence would be deeply felt.

Before his injury, Warner was leading the 49ers with 50 tackles and had also contributed three passes defensed. He had been having quite the season, forcing two fumbles, with one leading to a recovery.

This eight-year veteran out of BYU has earned recognition as one of the NFL’s leading linebackers, consistently recording over 130 tackles each season since 2021.
