49ers player Fred Warner faces large fine as suspension possibility arises

The NFL has imposed a fine of $65,673 on 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.

This fine stems from two unnecessary roughness penalties during San Francisco’s recent victory against the Commanders. Specifically, Warner was fined $47,762 for a hit on Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo. Interestingly, the officials initially threw a flag for this play but later decided to pick it up.

Warner could face a one-game suspension if he receives further penalties for hitting defenseless players. He’s already been fined for a hip-drop tackle, meaning if he collects three fines, another suspension could be forthcoming.

Back in Week 3, he received a $41,793 fine for hitting Cardinals tight end Trey McBride, which included an illegal use of helmet penalty and a hip-drop that went unflagged during the game.

In their last game, the 49ers almost let a 20-point lead slip away against the Commanders but ultimately secured a tense 23-17 win. They remain undefeated after six weeks, but injuries are starting to become concerning for the team.

Currently, the 49ers are missing their top two wide receivers, Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel. With a perfect 6-0 record, losing other stars like Warner to suspensions would be quite detrimental.

Even though the team is holding strong this season, the NFC West is an intensely competitive division, and any loss could hinder San Francisco’s playoff aspirations.
