NFL Playoff Incident: Lenoir vs. Smith-Njigba

During Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game, Deomodore Lenoir, cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers, was caught on camera headbutting Jackson Smith-Njigba, wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. This event unfolded in the second half of a game that ultimately ended with a decisive 41-6 victory for the Seahawks.

Before the headbutt, Lenoir and Smith-Njigba had a brief exchange of words, after which Lenoir collided his helmet with Smith-Njigba’s facemask. To the surprise of many spectators, officials did not call a penalty for this incident, seeming to overlook it entirely.

Seattle’s victory was highlighted by Smith-Njigba’s strong performance, which included three receptions totaling 19 yards and a touchdown. After the game, his brother jokingly took to social media, teasing Lenoir with a message that read, “Jax always wanted a little brother to bully him. Welcome to the family.”

Lenoir, who managed to record three tackles in the game, found it tough to keep up with Sam Darnold and the Seahawks’ offensive strategies, which forced the 49ers’ defense into uncomfortable spots throughout the match.

Seattle amassed a total of 281 yards while also causing three turnovers against San Francisco. Lenoir, reflecting on the game, stated that had the 49ers been at full strength, the outcome might have been very different. “Having them back means it’s going to be a completely different game,” he mentioned, adding, “But I mean, there’s no excuses. We had enough people here to get the job done. So I feel like it’s not going to work today.”

Looking ahead, the Seahawks are set to face the winner of the matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship.
