Samuel's situation adds another injury problem to the 49ers' offense this year. In San Francisco, Christian McCaffrey's Achilles tendonitis controversy continues, and tight end George Kittle is also thought to be day-to-day with a sprained foot.
Given the injury situation, the 49ers want Samuel, a dynamic offensive weapon who can play both receiver and running back, to be healthy as soon as possible.
Samuel is in his sixth season with the 49ers, and McCaffrey has always been in the spotlight since being traded to the Bay Area from the Carolina Panthers, but given his ability to do just about anything asked of Shanahan, Samuel has become an essential part of the offensive line. .
Through the first six games of the season, Samuel has amassed 335 receiving yards, 51 rushing yards and two total touchdowns. He is coming off a season in which he gained over 1,000 yards from scrimmage, scored 12 total touchdowns and helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl.
