The San Francisco 49ers are backing up their trucks ahead of their highly anticipated season opener against the Jets.
The 49ers are on the verge of bringing back star left tackle Trent Williams after re-signing Brandon Aiyuk, who missed out on an extension. The team's cornerstone lineman returned to San Francisco and signed a new contract. His agent said: Elite Royalty SportsThe news was confirmed on social media on Tuesday.
Williams was also seen in a video posted by his brother, Fred Williams, getting ready to board a private jet and head to training camp.
Aiyuk, a stubborn holdout himself, previously re-signed to a four-year, $120 million deal, and Williams is expected to once again be one of the highest-paid left tackles in the NFL.
The 49ers' ability to work out deals with Aiyuk and Williams would be a huge boon for the defending NFC champions as they prepare to host Aaron Rodgers and the Jets on “Monday Night Football” on Sept. 9.
Williams, 36, signed a six-year, $138 million contract in 2021, making him the highest-paid left tackle in NFL history.
He's since been demoted to the sixth-highest salary in the league while earning three straight Pro Bowl selections as the blindside blocker for Jimmy Garoppolo and now Brock Purdy.
San Francisco has had a ton of success with Williams, including an astounding 6.05 yards per carry rushing behind him. The 49ers averaged just 4.45 yards per carry on all other running plays.
Another piece of good news for San Francisco is ESPN reported. Star running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to return to practice on Tuesday.

With Williams and Aiyuk back on the team, the 49ers have risen from a 3.5-point favorite to a 4-point favorite on DraftKings.
