A North Texas sheriff confirmed that at least five people were killed in tornadoes that ripped through two counties over Memorial Day weekend. At least 20 people were injured in the storms Saturday night.
Cook County, Texas, Sheriff Ray Sappington reported that at least five people were killed in an attack in a North Texas county on Saturday night. As the sun rose Sunday morning, the trail of destruction seemed to stretch for miles, NBCDFW reported. report.
It’s hard to put into words the devastation we’re seeing in Cook County, Texas. About 60-80 people were sheltering here when the tornado struck. Numerous injuries have been reported. Five people were confirmed dead at a nearby RV park.

“We have five confirmed (deaths) and unfortunately that number will probably rise,” Sappington told reporters. “Nothing remains of this home, there’s just a trail of rubble. The damage is pretty severe.”
Fox 4 Dallas report Two of the dead were found in a mobile home parking lot, while dozens more survived by taking refuge in a travel center along I-35.
About 60 to 80 people were evacuated when the deadly tornado struck the RV park, NBCDFW reporter Alanna Killen said.

Two women miraculously survived after accidentally driving their car into the path of a tornado. Video posted to social media by WFAA ABC8 captured the terrifying moment as the tornado passed through.

The storm also hit neighboring Denton County, where fire department personnel rescued victims from a marina on Ray Roberts Lake.
