Police in California say a 5-year-old girl was attacked and killed by her family's dog, but she had grown up with the dog without incident.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Officers were called to the family's home on Palomino Avenue in Covina around noon Sunday.
“I can't imagine doing that to my worst enemy. This is absolutely awful.”
A 5-year-old girl was found attacked by two dogs in her backyard. Los Angeles County Fire Rescue took the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:23 p.m.
Investigators say the two dogs involved in the horrific attack were a 10-year-old Rottweiler and a 6-year-old Rottweiler mix. Another family member also suffered minor injuries.
“The child had been around dogs all his life,” said Lt. Steven de Jong. According to To KABC TV.
A total of four dogs were rescued from the home by Los Angeles County Animal Control personnel.
One neighbor told KABC he felt “terrible” for the family.
“Honestly, it feels like Christmas time has come. I think they have another child, but I can't imagine my biggest enemy doing something like that. This is just awful,” Alison Cuevas said. That's true.''
She went on to say that she was surprised to find out they had a Rottweiler.
“Everyone walks their dogs,” she added. “I had never seen a Rottweiler walking around before. I was very, very surprised that there was one.”
Another neighbor said the family recently moved into the home over the summer.
