A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit the west coast of Shikoku, Japan.

The quake struck around 11:14 p.m. Wednesday, and initial reports suggested only minor injuries and damage.
The report also said there was no threat of a tsunami.
Ainan Town in Ehime Prefecture and Sukumo Town in Kochi Prefecture both recorded earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.6, the third from the top.
The epicenter was the Bungo Channel, which runs straight between Shikoku and Kyushu, and was approximately 34 miles deep.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday that many minor injuries had been reported, but none were fatal.
Japan Broadcasting Corporation reported minor damage in some areas, including landslides on national highways, falling streetlights, and broken water pipes.
According to the local fire department, among the injured was a woman in her 70s who collapsed and was taken to the hospital.
Sukumo City has announced plans to open 10 evacuation centers.
