6 in 10 Adults May Suffer from Heart Disease in Next 30 Years

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), at least 6 in 10 older adults will develop heart disease in the next 30 years.

The organization shared the news on its website on June 4. The AHA continued:

Heart disease and stroke, along with several major risk factors such as high blood pressure and obesity, are projected to triple in associated costs to $1.8 trillion by 2050, according to two American Heart Association presidential recommendations published Tuesday in the AHA journal Circulation. One report examines the projected increase in cardiovascular disease rates over the next few decades, while the other projects the total associated costs.

“The U.S. cardiovascular disease landscape is witnessing the arrival of a near perfect storm,” Dhruv S. Kazi, PhD, vice chair of the advisory writing group, said in a news release.

He also noted that over the past decade there has been a sharp increase in cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, which increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

“It is not surprising that a significant increase in cardiovascular disease risk factors and disease would generate a substantial economic burden,” he added.

According to the Mayo Clinic, heart disease progresses at different rates. FormsAnd some of them can be avoided or treated if you choose to live a healthy life.

In July 2020, Breitbart News reported, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), that heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States.

“Heart disease claims the lives of approximately 647,000 Americans each year and is the leading cause of death among U.S. men, women and people of most races and ethnicities,” the news article states.

In February, the UPI news agency reported that a large study had found that taking too much of the B vitamin niacin could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
