6 injured after tractor-trailer, dump truck slam into NJ Target

Nearly a dozen people were injured when a dump truck crashed into a tractor-trailer at a Target in New Jersey Friday afternoon.

According to a report from affiliate Fox 5 New York, the dump truck lost control while descending a steep hill, crossed the road and collided with a tractor-trailer.

The destruction continued and the vehicle entered the North Bargain Target at 7101 Tunnel Avenue.

According to FOX 5, North Hudson Regional Fire Chief David Donnarumma confirmed six people were injured and one woman was in critical condition.

The woman had to be rescued from the bathroom, where she sustained serious injuries, the report said.

Video from SkyFOX showed a huge hole in the side of the department store, a tractor-trailer wrapped around a telephone voting booth and a dump truck inside the store.

The road will be closed while crews remove the debris and structural engineers evaluate the building, officials said.

North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco released a statement calling the accident “catastrophic.”

“Initial reports indicate that a dump truck traveling down the hill on 69th Avenue lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer,” Sacco wrote. “The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to crash into the Target store. …Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Please extend your support and prayers to those injured.”

Target was open at the time of the crash. It is unclear how many people were in the affected area.
