CBS news program “60 Minutes” responded Sunday to former President Trump's claims that the network selectively edited interviews with Vice President Harris, his Democratic opponent, to make her look better.
“Former President Donald Trump is accusing '60 Minutes' of deceptively editing his Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris,” the program reported. “That's a lie.”
in statement“60 Minutes'' confirmed to fellow CBS News program “Face the Nation'' that it aired “a longer section'' of Harris' responses to questions about the Gaza war, but the program did not provide any information on the content of the exchange. The following claims remained unchanged.
“Same question. Same answer. But there are different parts of the response,” the statement said.
“When editing interviews, whether they are with politicians, athletes or movie stars, we strive to be clear, accurate and to the point,” the statement continued. “Her part of her response on 60 Minutes was more concise, which allowed her to free up time for other subjects within the broader 21-minute segment.”
The program noted that the Republican candidate had canceled a scheduled “60 Minutes” interview, and the statement reaffirmed Trump's offer to be interviewed on the program.
“Our long-standing invitation to former President Trump is still open. If he would like to discuss issues facing the country or the Harris interview, he would be happy to appear on 60 Minutes. .”
CBS News, After the First Broadcast; provided a transcript Harris' remarks were reported online, but Trump and his allies have repeatedly criticized the network for airing a condensed version of his conversation with journalist Bill Whitaker.
A Trump campaign spokesperson called the TV show “hopelessly biased” after Sunday's statement.
“60 Minutes just admitted that they did the exact same thing that President Trump is accused of doing. They changed different parts of Kamala Harris' answers to make her sound more disjointed than she actually is. “We have edited the response,” the spokesperson said.
On Friday, President Trump amplified his concerns and threatened to sue CBS News over the interview.
“So I'm actually going to sue them. I think so. 'No, you know, they can't defend it, and even if they could, it would be very embarrassing even if they won. “Yes,” Trump told podcast host Dan Bongino.
