62 percent worn out by presidential campaign coverage: Survey

Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) say they are exhausted by the volume of news coverage about the 2024 presidential campaign and candidates, according to the survey. Pew Research Center survey It was published on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the survey conducted April 8-14, about a third (35%) of respondents said they were happy to see a lot of coverage of the campaign and candidates.

The Pew Research Center also found an inverse correlation between how closely people followed election news and how exhausted they felt by it.

Overall, 58% of Americans said they follow news about 2024 presidential candidates very or fairly closely, while 28% said they follow them not very closely and 13% said they don’t follow them at all closely.

Of those who said they followed election news “very” closely, 40% said it made them feel tired, and of those who said they followed it “fairly” closely, 61% said it made them feel tired.

Of those who said they were not following the schedule very strictly, 70% said they felt tired, while 77% of those who were not following the schedule at all strictly said they felt tired.

According to a Pew Research Center report, slightly fewer Republicans than Democrats said they were disgusted by election coverage: 58% of Republicans and 66% of Democrats.

Conservative Republicans are significantly less likely to experience press fatigue (55%) than moderate or liberal Republicans (65%).

The poll comes as Americans have long reported feeling “fear” and “fatigue” about a possible rematch between President Biden and former President Trump.

The Pew Research Center survey included 8,709 U.S. adults and has a sampling margin of error of 1.5 percentage points.
