Archaeologists recently announced the discovery of a 14th-century castle with a moat beneath a hotel in Vannes, France.
The castle has been identified as the Castle of Hermine and was built by John the Conqueror in the 1380s. It is located below the courtyard of Hotel Lagorce.
In a March 26 press release translated from French, the National Institute for Preventive Archeology (INRAP) explained that the excavations were carried out from spring to autumn 2023. Archaeologists were shocked to find that the castle ruins were relatively complete and well preserved. .
“Due to the excavations, the plan of the first floor was revealed little by little. The (defunct) ducal residence, which was 42 meters long and 17 meters wide, had unusually thick walls.”INRAP said. A ducal residence is a residence where a duke lives, and John IV was also a ducal residence.
