Violent Assault at T-Mobile Center Concert

An elderly man, Thomas Schlange, faced a brutal attack by teenagers during an NBA Young Boy concert at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on Sunday night.

Schlange, 66, was working at the event when he noticed a disturbing situation and attempted to intervene. Video footage captured the moment showing him being forcefully thrown into the crowd.

After hitting the ground, he struggled to get back on his feet, but the teens continued to tower over him. Despite his attempts to shield himself, they swept his arm aside and unleashed a flurry of punches to his head as onlookers reacted with shock.

Schlange later recounted the overwhelming anger he felt during the incident, emphasizing his instinct to escape the situation safely. “I mean, it’s serious. I got off and took a blow to my head,” he told a local news outlet. “He was so furious; we were just trying to keep our fans safe.”

While police apprehended one of the teens following the attack, the assailant was subsequently released to his parents, leaving authorities to continue their investigation into the assault.

The Kansas City Police confirm that the teen involved is under 16. Specific charges against him are still unclear. Meanwhile, Schlange was hospitalized with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

After nearly two decades in his role, Schlange expressed disbelief that he would become a victim of workplace violence. “The message is, as young adults—and people growing up—we need to learn to control our anger,” he stated.

On Friday, Schlange is expected to meet with police to discuss the ongoing investigation. T-Mobile Center spokesman Shani Tate Ross condemned the incident as “terrifying” and unacceptable.

Ross added that this isolated event should not overshadow the overall safety experienced by the many guests attending the concert. “All kinds of violence are unacceptable at T-Mobile Center,” he remarked.

The disturbing footage of the attack has sparked greater concern about youth violence and safety at events, with the office of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas urging the community to provide any information related to the incidents during the concert.

“Concerts, sporting events, and community gatherings should be places of safety and connection, not fear or harm,” the mayor’s office stated. They also assured that the venue would collaborate with law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure appropriate steps are taken regarding the assailant.

In light of the violence at the T-Mobile Center, another venue in Chicago canceled an upcoming NBA Young Boy concert, though the reason for this specific cancellation has not been disclosed, and other nearby events remain unaffected. The Baton Rouge rapper is currently on his first tour in five years, titled the “MASA Tour.”
