7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits US’ California, Tsunami Warning Issued

California Earthquake: A magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded at a depth of just 10 kilometers.

California:

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of California on Thursday, triggering a tsunami warning, U.S. seismologists said.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded about 100 kilometers west-southwest of Ferndale at a depth of just 10 kilometers (6 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu warned that “based on preliminary seismic parameters…dangerous tsunami waves are possible for coastlines within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.”

The warning noted that while no areas were experiencing waves yet, people near the coastline should be aware of the potential danger.
