7-month-old baby found unresponsive in lake by mother dies, according to police

A seven-month-old baby was found unresponsive after being pulled from a lake in an Australian park by his visibly distressed mother, prompting a police inquiry.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the baby’s “unexplained” death, which occurred around 10:40 AM local time on Saturday.

Queensland Police reported that emergency services were alerted to an “unresponsive” baby at a park in Chatsworth, Queensland. Sadly, they later confirmed the baby had passed away.

“The child was taken to the hospital for care but was pronounced dead that evening,” police noted.

The police are currently looking into the situation. The baby’s mother and father, who have not been named, are cooperating with investigators.

Murder detectives are involved in the case, according to a report from the Australian Broadcasting Company. Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield mentioned that pieces of information leading up to the incident are still missing.

The investigation has received assistance from the Child Trauma Unit and the Murder Investigation Group, who are collaborating with local law enforcement.

Mansfield explained that the family was on a camping trip in the park, noting, “The incident occurred the following morning.”

Witnesses reportedly performed CPR after the mother retrieved the baby from the water, according to 9News.

Several campers utilized the park facilities overnight, and Mansfield mentioned, “We know some people had already departed by the time of the toddler’s death.”

Authorities have traced other vehicles parked nearby and reached out for information, but they are not considered crucial to the case at this time.

The Child Trauma Unit and Murder Investigator are aiding in the ongoing investigations, and there are no suspicions of foul play at this point.

The post reached out to Wide Baybernet Police for further comment.
