7 Reasons to Distrust Elon Musk Compared to Donald Trump

Elon Musk made headlines with a dramatic outburst directed at President Donald Trump on Thursday. He claimed credit for Trump’s election and even made unsettling accusations against him, effectively severing ties with the Maga movement. Still, there are several reasons why those baffled by Musk’s remarks might want to remain loyal to the President.

On Thursday, both Trump and Musk used their social media platforms to air grievances, with Musk expressing his displeasure over a recent bill in a post on X. He accused Trump of lacking gratitude for his role in the President’s reelection.

In response, Trump announced the cancellation of Musk’s government subsidies, calling the Tesla CEO “crazy.” Musk went so far as to suggest Trump is linked to Epstein in some way, claiming this was the real reason for not disclosing certain information. He even threatened to undermine America’s space capabilities by potentially scrapping the SpaceX Dragon capsule.

Musk, who bought X and positioned himself as a free speech advocate, has repeatedly shown that he ultimately acts in his own self-interest, especially as the 2024 presidential election approaches.

Here are seven reasons why the Maga movement might need to reevaluate their trust in Elon Musk:

#1: Musk’s Ties to China

Musk has a history of praising the Chinese government and anticipates that Chinese auto manufacturers may soon compete vigorously in the electric vehicle market, challenging Tesla. In 2023, he indicated a strong commitment to competing in China’s automotive sector and supports Chinese core socialist values.

This comes as Tesla has faced pressure from Beijing to end long-standing price wars, even as the company has reduced prices multiple times in China.

Moreover, Musk and Tesla openly express admiration for the Chinese Communist Party on Weibo, China’s version of social media.

#2: Safety Concerns with Tesla Vehicles

Early this year, incidents involving Tesla vehicles raised alarms, reminding the public that EVs can be unsafe due to the risk of battery fires, a concern that has lingered for years.

Moreover, adverse weather conditions could potentially turn these vehicles into hazardous situations.

#3: SpaceX’s Market Dominance Issues

SpaceX encountered significant difficulties recently when one of its launches exploded during a test flight, marking a troubling trend. Musk has boasted about his company’s capabilities but a single company’s dominance can be concerning, especially regarding national security, particularly when it comes to space access.

#4: Musk’s Controversial Stance on H-1B Visas

In December, Musk made headlines for his fiery remarks about those advocating for the end of the H-1B visa program, which he expressed through a humorous but aggressive quote from the film *Tropic Thunder*.

It’s noteworthy that Tesla has faced criticism for replacing US employees with foreign workers under this visa program, which primarily imports individuals from India.

#5: A History of Changing Allegiances

During Trump’s presidency, Musk supported the former president, but he quickly distanced himself when Trump pulled the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, stating the decision wasn’t beneficial for the country or the planet.

This shows that Musk might not remain loyal if his interests diverge from someone else’s goals, especially if those goals financially benefit him.

#6: Trump’s Criticism of Musk

In a rally in Alaska in 2022, Trump referred to Musk as a “bullshit artist,” particularly in relation to Musk’s attempts to back out of his Twitter purchase while claiming he would support a Republican for the first time.

Trump expressed uncertainty about Musk’s motivations, commenting on the unfavorable terms of Musk’s contract.

#7: Musk’s Questionable Relationship with Drugs

Last year, Musk revealed that he almost always posts late at night while under the influence of ketamine, a substance he uses to manage depression symptoms.

Upon questioning about potential misuse of the drug, Musk denied any wrongdoing but acknowledged that too much can hinder productivity. He’s expressed concerns about SSRIs, asserting that occasional ketamine use is sometimes a preferable alternative.

Recently, Musk clarified that he no longer uses prescription ketamine, insisting he is “not taking drugs!”
