Seven San Antonio police officers were shot and killed by a suicidal man while trying to help.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said SWAT arrived on the scene after all officers were shot by the suspect.

The suspect was found dead inside an apartment after an hours-long standoff on the city's north side. McManus said it was unclear whether the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunfire or SWAT gunfire.

“I went outside and saw that one of the SAPD officers had been shot,” Joseph Loredo, a resident of the apartment complex, told a local television station. “They put a tourniquet on him and then dragged him away so it looked like a wound to his leg.”

He said he captured video of the gunfight between police and the suspect.
