A 75-year-old homeowner in Vermont allegedly opened fire with a muzzleloader after three armed men tried to break into his residence late Tuesday night.

Gordon Richard Sr. told investigators that the trio tried to enter his home on Sandy Hill Road, Ga., through a locked interior door from another section of the residence where his son lived. Told. WCAX-TV reportedThis was reported by state police.
Richard told police he shot one of the men with a muzzleloader, then closed the door and called 911, police said.
According to WCAX, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. The town of Georgia is located about 30 minutes north of Burlington.
Officers found Paul Brown, 39, of Milton and St. Albans, injured and rushed to a nearby garden, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday, the department said.
Police told WCAX the investigation is ongoing and no one has been arrested or charged yet. WPTZ-TV said: Police executed a search warrant at the home and said the homeowner is cooperating with police.
WCAX reports that officers are searching for Matthew Richard as part of the investigation. According to WPTZ, Matthew Richard is the homeowner’s 40-year-old son.
