8-Year Prison Term and Pronouns Acknowledged for Would-Be Kavanaugh Assailant

Democrats Appearing to Thrive

In today’s discussion, it’s clear that, well, Democrats have had their moments of success.

Let’s talk about Sophie Roske, formerly known as Nicholas John Roske. This individual had a chilling plan to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh back on June 28, 2022.

Do you remember when the Supreme Court’s decision, particularly on Roe vs. Wade, was leaked? It created quite a stir. And, you know, there was all this talk about how it was a threat to democracy. Guess what? The chaos that unfolded proved effective for some. It paved the way for an attempt on Kavanaugh’s life.

Roske learned about the leaked documents, acquired a Glock 17, practiced with it, and traveled all the way from Simi Valley, California, to Washington, D.C. His aim? To be the infamous figure behind Kavanaugh’s murder.

He managed to locate Kavanaugh’s residence easily, even after the Biden administration chose not to enforce laws that prohibit protests outside judges’ homes. It’s alarming, honestly. At 1 a.m., he emerged from a taxi dressed in black, carrying a suitcase and backpack filled with firearms, ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, and other tools. Quite a collection, really.

But things changed course when federal marshals found him. Instead of following through, Roske decided to walk away. Later, he sent an email to his sister confessing his intentions, and she persuaded him to turn himself in. He called the police and confessed he had come to kill the Supreme Court Justice.

In April 2025, he pleaded guilty to attempted murder. But, interestingly, he made some personal changes shortly after. Just two months post-plea, he identified as female and began using the name Sophie.

If you’re ever in a situation where you’re being sentenced by a judge appointed by Joe Biden, I guess there are a couple of strategies to potentially lighten your sentence: first, fully embracing a transgender identity, and second, believing the target of your assassination is someone the left opposes.

And it seems this tactic worked.

Judge Deborah Boardman, a Biden appointee, ultimately sentenced Roske to just eight years in prison.

That’s right—eight years.

Had he attempted to harm a more favored member of the left, like Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the outcome might’ve been vastly different—perhaps a decade or more.

But, since Roske aimed for Kavanaugh, a figure many Democrats and media figures longed to see eliminated, Judge Boardman’s message was clear: “You know, if your target is someone we oppose and you fail, it’s merely eight years. Succeed, and your name could be remembered as a heroic figure.”

And, of course, being transgender played a significant role in the outcome. The judge acknowledged that these factors, including concerns about Roske’s potential experiences in custody and access to treatment, certainly influenced her decision.

To put it bluntly, the Washington Post revealed that Boardman considered Roske’s identity as part of her judgment. The details about Boardman’s background came late in the story, almost buried under layers of context.

It’s hard not to conclude: indeed, the Democrats have navigated this situation quite well.
