83 percent of doctors in new survey say AI could help fight burnout

A new survey found that most doctors say they feel burnt out on a regular basis, but many believe artificial intelligence (AI) could be the answer.

investigation, Released on Wednesday A new study commissioned by Athena Health found that approximately 93 percent of respondents experience burnout after working 15 hours beyond their normal hours. Released Wednesday by Athena Health.

The fight against burnout is also catching up with medical professionals, who also contend with overwhelming administrative workloads and staff shortages. However, roughly 83% of respondents said AI could help address some of these issues in the healthcare industry, according to the survey.

Still, the majority of respondents, 60 percent, said their biggest concern about AI is the loss of humanity. Four out of 10 doctors surveyed said emerging technologies only complicate their practice.

But Dr. Nele Jessel, chief medical officer at Athena Health, says if doctors decide the benefits outweigh the risks, it’s good for both doctors and patients, especially by reducing paperwork and increasing efficiency. It is said that it will happen.

“For physicians to fully reap the benefits of technology as a treatment enhancement tool, they need to experience more benefits and reduce additional complexity and burden,” said Jessel. “If we get this right, we could use this technology to reduce administrative tasks and increase efficiency so doctors can refocus on their patients.”

If AI is useful in the long term, it could benefit medical settings, the researchers said. Healthcare workers currently feel they don’t have enough time to spend face-to-face with patients, and low retention rates are impacting their organizations.

Almost 60% of doctors said they don’t think they have enough time to spend face-to-face time with the patients they treat, according to a poll. Seventy-eight percent of survey respondents said staff shortages and low staff retention rates are impacting their physician organizations.

The researchers explained that if AI could offset some of the administrative workload of doctors, it would be a major boost to the medical field, as some professionals are so overworked that they consider leaving the field.

Approximately 64 percent of respondents said they felt overwhelmed by administrative requirements. More than 60% are considering leaving the field entirely, according to the survey.

Athena Health surveyed 1,003 physicians from October 23 to November 8 through the Harris Poll.
