84-Year-Old Sen Mitch McConnell Admitted to Hospital

Senator Mitch McConnell Hospitalized

Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, was hospitalized on Sunday due to unspecified medical issues.

The 84-year-old senator was admitted in the morning and is described as “receiving excellent care,” according to a spokesperson. McConnell has faced various health challenges in previous years.

“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning and is receiving excellent care,” Press Secretary David Popp told a news outlet.

Previously, McConnell was hospitalized for flu-like symptoms in February, which caused him to miss a vote. In October 2025, he fell in the basement of the Russell Senate Office Building after reporters crowded him while he was trying to reach the railing.

In March 2023, he suffered a concussion from a fall, and there were a couple of incidents that summer where he appeared to freeze during public speaking. Later, in December 2024, he fell and incurred minor injuries that required him to use a wheelchair.

It has become common to see him relying on his security team for support while moving around Capitol Hill.

In December 2024, McConnell announced he would be stepping down after nearly two decades as the Senate Republican leader and, in February 2025, stated that he would not seek re-election after his term ends in January 2027.
