Burglars Target California Jewelry Store, Elderly Owner Injured
Shocking surveillance footage has emerged showing a group of ruthless burglars storming a jewelry store in California. During the incident, the 88-year-old owner suffered a stroke after being attacked.
The robbery took place at the Kim Hang Jewelry Store in San Jose around 2:30 PM on Friday, according to local police reports.
Video footage from inside the store reveals the robbers breaking through the front window. A group of masked suspects, all dressed in black, can be seen entering the family-owned business.
The most prominent robber, wielding hammers, is shown smashing display cases in the store while grabbing gold and jewels.
In a terrifying moment, the elderly owner is seen standing at the back of the store as the burglars approach him. One of the intruders pushes him to the ground in an effort to prevent him from interfering with the robbery.
Amid the chaos, the sound of a vehicle slamming against something can be heard as they flee the scene.
Police reported that one of the suspects was armed and managed to escape with several stolen items.
A friend of the store owner, Chris Moore, shared that the elderly man was injured by broken glass while being forced down and subsequently suffered a stroke due to the stress of the attack.
Moore also reported that the owner received medical treatment overnight and was stabilized by Sunday morning before being discharged from the hospital.
The estimated damage to the store amounts to between $50,000 and $100,000, although the actual value of the stolen items has not been disclosed.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, but, as of now, no arrests have been made. An official mentioned that the suspect remains unidentified.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his outrage over the robbery, stating that the video left him feeling extremely angry.
“My blood boiled when I saw this senior being attacked,” he remarked. “These criminals must face severe consequences for their actions. I will be working closely with the police chief to follow this investigation.”
At a press conference held on Sunday, community leaders and victims’ families gathered to call for stronger protections for small businesses. Moore stressed that the attack symbolized not just an assault on the shop, but also on the dignity of the elderly and the safety of the community.
“We will not stand by while violence and fear take root in our neighborhoods,” he concluded.
