At some point in the last five years, I gave up on a major streaming service. Maybe it was when R-rated content crept into a supposedly family-friendly fare. Or when I encountered PG-13 content in a kids' series. Or maybe it was when I enjoyed season one of a fun show only to be shocked by anti-biblical content in season two.
A 2023 study by the Parents Television and Media Council found that only 15% of Netflix's original content is classified as PG, G, TV-Y or TV-Y7. The study does not include Disney Plus, which merged with Hulu, a highly unrecommended family service.
I still watch Netflix and Disney Plus every once in a while, but not as frequently as I used to. Their content no longer aligns with my values. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.
There's good news: Christian families are living in a renaissance of faith-centered, inspiring content. Gone are the days of the endless search for quality programming. Now the real question is, what to choose?
