9 Hurt When NYC Driver Hits Civilians, Police on New Year’s Eve

A car crashed into a group of people celebrating New Year's Eve near Madison Square Garden in New York City, injuring nine people and authorities have one suspect in custody.

According to New York City Fire Department officials, the incident occurred near West 34th Street and 9th Avenue.Authorities considered this a mass casualty incident, Fox News report Monday.

The driver appears to have veered onto the sidewalk and eventually stopped, hitting several people, including a police officer.

“Police responded to West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue and observed an altercation between the suspect, identified as a 44-year-old man, and another person, a police spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital. ” the department said.

As officers tried to intervene, the suspect got back in his car, got behind the wheel and rammed into a police vehicle, hitting a food truck and pinning a woman under it.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Law enforcement officers eventually arrested the suspect at West 34th Street and Ninth Avenue. His condition was stable when he was taken to the hospital.
