Tragic Discovery of Missing Girl in Pennsylvania
A 9-year-old girl, Renesmay Eutsey, was found deceased in the Youghiogheny River in Pennsylvania early Thursday, according to police reports. Her body was discovered partially submerged about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and roughly 20 miles from her home in Dunbar.
Authorities arrested Courtney Malinda Utsy, 31, who was Renesmay’s court-appointed guardian and girlfriend, following reports from other children living in the same house. They indicated they had seen “mom” involved in troubling circumstances surrounding Renesmay.
Utsy and her girlfriend initially reported Renesmay missing approximately 11 hours after she was last seen around 2 AM on Wednesday. Investigative details from WTAE suggest that when the police interviewed three other children from the residence, significant revelations emerged, including allegations that Utsy had harmed Renesmay.
One child claimed to have witnessed Utsy kill Renesmay and put her body into a plastic container the previous night. Another witness described hearing the girl’s cries and, upon investigating, encountered Utsy and her girlfriend yelling and physically assaulting Renesmay.
According to police complaints, there were even more disturbing accounts. One child reported witnessing the aftermath, saying they saw Renesmay’s body stuffed in a black garbage bag within a plastic tote. Utsy allegedly told investigators that Renesmay had sustained severe burns in the bathtub over the prior week, which had led to her deterioration before her tragic death.
Utsy expressed fear of calling emergency services, worried that she might face repercussions for the situation involving Renesmay’s injuries and fragile condition. Eventually, she guided authorities to the spot along the riverbank where Renesmay’s body was located.
Charges against Utsy have been outlined as related to physical abuse and a failure to seek necessary medical attention for the child. She now faces murder charges, with the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office confirming these developments. As of now, her girlfriend has not been charged with any offenses.
