An elderly man who survived a violent robbery has warned New Yorkers that New York City is not safe for seniors. An older gentleman called the city a “jungle” and said it would soon be “uncivilized.”
Hyman Silvergrad was walking home from a grocery store on East 86th Street in Manhattan when he was attacked by a robber who began grabbing his back pockets.
“When I got to the edge of the construction site, I saw a shadow and suddenly someone grabbed me.” [both my] “He tapped me on the shoulder and started ripping my left back pocket. He knew he was ripping it up for money and was trying to shake his hand off of me,” Silverglad said. ” he looked back.
“I think he must have turned me around…he slammed me to the pavement and started running away,” the 91-year-old said. new york post.
The victim is recovering in hospital with six fractures and another fracture in his lower spine. He is reportedly unable to walk and is in severe pain. Rehabilitation will also be required.
“He can’t walk and is in endless pain,” the former lawyer said. ABC7. “I had to fight for my life. Who doesn’t fight the good fight?”
Even more disturbing to this man was the fact that no one stopped to help him as he lay sprawled out on the ground.
”[You’d] I think I got hit by a mortar shell on the battlefield. It was very painful. No one stopped me. No one looked at me,” he explained, adding, “They were just walking… New York City is racing toward uncivilized areas.”
Mr. Silverglad has since announced that he is considering moving to Texas or Israel for security reasons.
“New York City has become a jungle. Since the assault, I’m thinking of moving from New York City to a safer place.”
Thankfully, as the senior tried to crawl back into his apartment building, three women – whom he called “wingless angels of God” – helped him return to his residence. Ta.
“Nobody over 65 is safe in this city. Anyone under 65 has some safety in their health and ability to run,” he continued.
His son James told the media that his father had no intention of parting with his money.
“I’m from Coney Island. He wasn’t going to take my wallet,” the son explained his father said.
Police released a photo of the suspect in the case in an effort to make an arrest.
