Texas investigates more than 200 illegally cast ballots thought to be from possible noncitizens.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has recently initiated a survey targeting over 100 individuals who are believed to be non-citizens and may have cast at least 200 votes during the 2020 and 2022 elections. The investigation primarily focuses on Harris County, but it also extends to data from Guadalupe, Cameron, and Eastland counties.

This effort stems from an executive order that enabled the state to access a database from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, aimed at identifying potential illegal voting. Paxton’s announcement followed reports that more than 30 possible non-citizens had allegedly participated in the 2024 general election.

“It’s crucial that we ensure only U.S. citizens vote in our elections,” Paxton stated, reinforcing his position against illegal voting. He emphasized that both illegal immigrants and foreigners should not be allowed to influence Texas elections. “I won’t stand for this,” he added.

He highlighted that the investigation aims to hold non-citizens accountable for any illegal voting, driven by the belief that recent executive actions by President Trump are pivotal in protecting electoral integrity. In June, Paxton expanded his probe to include 33 more individuals suspected of voting illegally in the 2024 elections.

Texas Representative Troy E. Nehls expressed support for this investigation, appreciating the efforts to maintain election integrity. This drive follows the assertion that the state has removed 1.1 million individuals from voter rolls, as announced by Governor Greg Abbott in 2024.
