Recent reports indicate that Travis Decker’s father was captured on a police dashboard camera just three days prior to the alleged murder of his three young daughters.
Decker, 32, was involved in a car accident at a red light in Wenatchee, Washington on May 27. He begged the other driver not to call the police, according to reports.
A nearly 20-minute clip from a dashcam shows Decker leaning against his pickup while an officer filled out a report.
The driver of the other vehicle described the situation, saying Decker’s demeanor felt almost intimidating, especially since he immediately called the police after the crash.
The driver remarked that Decker seemed not quite himself and asked a peculiar question regarding the accident.
Police noted that Decker had a previous car accident on May 4th, where he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run.
In that incident, the driver of a Honda CRV reported the truck’s license plate number to the authorities.
The interaction with Decker on May 27 ended with an awkward nine-second handshake, which felt quite uncomfortable.
During their exchange, Decker repeatedly asked if he would “be okay,” adding a layer of unease to the whole encounter.
Other witnesses were taken aback when they saw Decker’s face in the news just three days later.
“I had to stop and take a moment,” the driver told a news outlet.
On May 30, authorities allege that Decker covered the heads of his daughters, Paitin, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, with plastic bags.
The girls’ bodies were discovered on June 2, tied at the wrists and neck with zip ties, near their father’s abandoned truck close to the Rock Island campsite.
Whitney Decker, their mother, expressed her hope at a recent event that their legacy would live on in people’s memories, reflecting on their incredible nature with tears.
Law enforcement continues to search for Decker while expressing uncertainty about his current status.
“As of now, we have no solid evidence that Decker is alive or remains in the area,” stated the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office last month.
They noted that initial promising leads have diminished over the weeks, yet the search must continue. Evelyn and Olivia Decker deserve justice.
The search was called off in Idaho after a reported false sighting during the Fourth of July weekend, where a person resembling Decker was spotted exhibiting strange behavior on an ATV trail in the Saucetooth National Forest.
