Two weeks after the tragic ATV accident in California, the cause of death for Sophia Hutchins, a long-time friend and manager of Caitlyn Jenner, has been disclosed. She was 29 years old and had previously worked as a representative for the Trump campaign. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported that she died from blunt force injuries, as noted in her death certificate.
The incident has been classified as an accident.
On July 2nd, Hutchins was riding a quad vehicle near Jenner’s Malibu condo, valued at $3.5 million. The collision was severe enough to send her off the road, falling nearly 350 feet down a cliff.
Emergency responders declared her dead on the scene, and, thankfully, no one else involved in the crash was hurt.
Initial police reports suggest that Hutchins may have been speeding when she collided with a gray 2016 Mazda 6 that had two other women inside. Sgt. Eduardo Saucedo from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated that Hutchins seemed to be attempting to overtake other cars when the accident happened.
In his statements, he said, “It doesn’t appear she was following them closely. It looked like she was trying to navigate to avoid the car, but she was going too fast and clipped the back of that Mazda, which sent her off the cliff.”
CCTV footage showed a blue ATV next to an overturned vehicle that had previously crashed at the same location. Saucedo described the scene as quite grim when authorities arrived.
Hutchins and Jenner had known each other since 2015 when Jenner publicly announced her transition. Hutchins appeared in Jenner’s popular E! docuseries “I Am Cait,” which played a significant role in Jenner’s transition journey in 2016.
After finishing her studies at Pepperdine University in 2017, Hutchins co-founded a sunscreen company called Lumasol. A couple of years later, she began managing Jenner and played a part in Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, making various television appearances in support of the then-president.
Hutchins and Jenner were later spotted together at Mar-a-Lago during an election night party.
Reports indicate that Hutchins will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Los Angeles on July 24th.
