Former CBS News Chief David Rhodes in Talks for Potential Return
David Rhodes, the former head of CBS News, is apparently in negotiations with the Tiffany Network for a possible return, contingent upon the approval of the merger between Paramount and Skydance.
Rhodes held the position of president at CBS News from 2011 to 2019 and has a decade of experience at Fox News. He currently serves as the executive chairman of Sky News in the UK.
His return to the U.S. might be on the horizon, as there are reports suggesting that Skydance CEO David Ellison is encouraging Bari Weiss, co-founder of the news site Free Press, to become involved with a struggling network.
Both attended a high-profile “summer camp for billionaires” in Sun Valley, Idaho, earlier this month, as noted by the New York Times.
CBS News, Paramount, Skydance, and Sky News have not responded to requests for comments regarding the situation.
Rhodes is reportedly satisfied with his role at Sky News, according to a source who spoke to Reuters.
Recently, the network appointed Tom Chibrowski as CBS boss following Wendy McMahon’s resignation amidst her settlement involving President Trump.
Earlier in the month, Paramount agreed to a $16 million payment to resolve a $20 billion lawsuit claiming bias in a “60 Minutes” interview featuring Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Paramount’s chair, Shari Redstone, expressed her support for resolving this issue.
This deal is expected to influence how Trump-appointed FCC Chairman Brendan Kerr will oversee the $8.4 billion Skydance merger.
On Thursday, CBS announced the cancellation of the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” describing it as a financial decision amid a tough late-night landscape.
Originally launched by David Letterman in 1993, the popular late-night show is set to conclude next May.
Colbert, known for his frequent critiques of President Trump, has been a significant presence in late-night television.
