Stefanik takes aim at Mamdani and Hochul with popular photo of CEO cheating.

A viral moment from a Coldplay concert has sparked political responses, particularly from House Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik. She seized upon the incident, which involved allegations about astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR director Christine Cabot critiquing New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul.

Stefanik took to X to declare, “Commie Mamdani Holding [Gov. Kathy Hochul] I will be heading for reelection in 2026.”

Efforts to get comments from offices representing Hochul and Mamdani were made by Fox News Digital.

Although Stefanik has hinted at a potential run for governor of New York, she’s yet to officially announce her candidacy. Previously, she held a prominent position in House GOP leadership before being designated by former President Donald Trump as U.S. ambassador, a nomination that was later withdrawn. She eventually returned to leadership in the House.

Stefanik isn’t alone in her challenges to Hochul, who began her tenure in 2021 following the departure of former Governor Andrew Cuomo. She secured her first full term in 2022.

Rep. Mike Lawler, also from New York, is mulling a run against Hochul but hasn’t disclosed his plans yet. Lawler has managed to win in traditionally Democratic districts, in contrast to Stefanik, whose seat is in a solidly Republican area in upstate New York.

However, recent polling indicates that both of them would face significant hurdles against Hochul, along with potential competition from Nassau County executive Bruce Blakeman.

A Siena College poll has shown Hochul leading potential challengers by at least 20 points.

On a related note, Mamdani recently visited Washington, D.C., where he met with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders. He is returning to New York to engage with influential leaders like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to secure support in his campaign against Mayor Eric Adams.
