Preview of Sunday shows: Trump-Epstein story intensifies

This week, Jeffrey Epstein was back in the headlines as President Trump navigated the aftermath of a memo from the FBI and Justice Department addressing some conspiracy theories surrounding the convicted sex offender. It seems likely that this topic will dominate many discussions on Sunday shows.

The Department of Justice, under Trump’s direction, sought to establish a broader judicial transcript linked to Epstein’s criminal case from 2019 in New York. The memo concluded recently that Epstein’s death was a suicide, which aligns with earlier reports.

Nevertheless, there are still conspiracy theorists and Trump supporters who speculate that Epstein might have been murdered to conceal larger global schemes, such as child sex trafficking. Reactions to Trump’s actions in this situation have been quite mixed.

A recent report from the Wall Street Journal suggested that Trump once sent Epstein a birthday card in 2003, which reportedly featured an image of a naked woman. Trump denied this claim and took legal action against the magazine that published the allegation.

On Capitol Hill, the House is pushing forward with several new cryptocurrency bills. Meanwhile, the Senate has grappled with a $9 billion foreign aid package before finally passing it for Trump’s signature.

White House Crypto Czar David Sacks celebrated a law on Stablecoins during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures. He was joined by Senator John Tune, who played a role in getting the legislation pushed through before a Friday deadline.

On another front, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard raised concerns about potential prosecutions of officials from the Obama administration over allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is set to appear on two Sunday shows, following significant protests against ICE in recent weeks. Trump’s aggressive stance on deportations has led to judicial decisions that prevent judges from implementing broad immigration holds.

Additionally, there are reports suggesting growing pressure on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell from Trump, even though the president can’t simply fire him without cause—a move that hasn’t happened in modern history.

Rep. Jim Himes, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, will discuss this issue during an interview segment on CBS and also on News Nation’s “The Hill Sunday.”

Democratic electoral politics will likely come up on various Sunday shows as well. Former Rep. Colin Allred from Texas and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, both vying for the governorship, will be featured on NBC’s “Weekend.”

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rep. Ritchie Torres is set to talk about divisions within the party against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral candidate in New York City. While Torres has supported former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the past, he hasn’t yet publicly endorsed Mamdani, though he seems to be warming up to the Democratic Socialists lately.

On News Nation’s “The Hill Sunday”: Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-Ill.); Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Himes (D-Conn.) will discuss various issues.

ABC’s “This Week”: Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn); Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

CNN’s “State of the Union”: Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.); political commentators including Karen Finney and former Congressman Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.).

NBC’s “Weekend”: Former Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas); Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser (D).

CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass; Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons; Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.); Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

“Fox News Sunday”: Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.); Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.).

“Fox News” and “Sunday Morning Futures”: Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence; Sen. John Tune (D) and Crypto Czar David Sacks.
