Caitlin Clark’s Participation in WNBA All-Star Game Uncertain Due to Injury
Caitlin Clark might miss the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday because of a groin injury. But that doesn’t mean she’s backing down from the competitive spirit, even if she’s sitting on the sidelines.
Selected as one of the team captains for the event, Clark has the backing of Sandi Brondello, head coach of the New York Liberty. Just before the game, Clark chatted with her fellow captain, Nafisa Collier, at an ESPN event, discussing her coaching approach for the game.
“I think I need to keep an eye on the refs,” she mentioned. “I’m not sure who’s officiating yet, but that might influence how I handle them. Usually, All-Star games have a lighter tone, but who knows, maybe I’ll get a technical foul or something.”
Her focus is on having fun. Clark wondered aloud if anyone had ever been ejected from an All-Star Game. It’s a curious thought.
Clark is no stranger to the workings of WNBA officials. She speaks with referees regularly and often shares her thoughts and concerns over the phone. Just the other night, she had to be pulled away from a referee during a timeout in a game against the Connecticut Sun due to her intense passion for the game.
Despite her injury, which ruled her out of participating after a recent game, Clark was voted a captain after receiving the most fan votes. Her energy, even from the sidelines, is unmistakable.
