Messi Shines as Inter Miami Defeats New York Red Bulls

Harrison, New Jersey – As the 60-minute mark approached, the atmosphere was electric, primarily fueled by fans cheering for Lionel Messi in the packed stadium.

With Inter Miami leading 3-1, Messi finally added a goal to his tally after contributing to Miami’s previous win against the Red Bulls. The crowd erupted when he scored his second goal of the night in the 75th minute.

A wave of “Messi!” chants resonated throughout the venue.

The Argentine star assisted Miami’s first two goals in the opening half before netting a breakaway goal, smoothly evading Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and slotting the ball into an almost empty net. Luis Suarez set him up perfectly, and Messi, with remarkable poise, controlled the pass before scoring again, extending his lead in the golden boot race.

The match was a thrilling finale for many fans who hoped to witness the talents of one of football’s greatest players.

Earlier in the day, fans gathered outside the stadium, eager for autographs, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Inter Miami bus when it arrived.

The excitement peaked as Messi stopped to acknowledge the supporters, drawing cheers as if he were royalty.

Despite the Red Bulls’ efforts, both the fans and the team struggled to contain the Messi phenomenon.

The game started with the Red Bulls taking the initiative, showing more aggression in the first 20 minutes. Sean Neelis had a missed opportunity just six minutes in, while Noah Eil came close to scoring with a shot from outside the box in the 14th minute.

Alexander Huck opened the scoring for the Red Bulls in the 15th minute, converting a corner kick from Emile Forsberg. However, the momentum shifted shortly after their lead.

Almost ten minutes later, Messi made a stellar pass to Jordi Alba, who managed to place the ball into the corner from a sharp angle in the 24th minute.

Inter Miami showcased their star power as Messi delivered yet another crucial assist to Alba.

Segovia added to Miami’s tally with a goal during stoppage time, capitalizing on a loose ball in the offensive zone.

Since May 4, 2024, Inter Miami has outscored the Red Bulls 15-4 in their last three matchups, with Messi playing a significant role in each game, including Saturday night’s showdown.

The Red Bulls were looking to build on their recent comeback win against New England and secure a playoff spot as they faced Miami.

This week, Messi set a record with five consecutive MLS games featuring multiple goals, having scored at least twice in six of his last seven appearances.
