Trump’s Poll Numbers Surging Amid Epstein Controversy
On Sunday, President Trump was vocal about his rising poll numbers within the GOP, stating that his approval ratings have increased “significantly,” even with the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, a well-known figure in numerous scandals.
“My numbers in the Republican Party are at new heights, as the truth about the Jeffrey Epstein situation has come to light, thanks to the radical left and their so-called ‘troublemakers,'” Trump expressed. He further claimed that his approval ratings have reached impressive figures—90%, 92%, 93%, and even 95% in different surveys, setting new records among Republican supporters. “These are my highest ever in the general election, and I’m all about strong borders.”
It’s a bit unclear which specific polls he was referring to. However, various surveys from the previous week indicated that Trump’s approval remains strong among GOP voters. One CNN poll reported an 88% approval rating, while a Quinnipiac survey recorded it at 90%. These numbers suggest an upward trend from earlier polls, where he had ratings of 86% and 87% in the same outlets.
Trump’s assertions about his favorable numbers come amidst discussion within portions of his support base about Epstein, pushing for more transparency from the administration regarding the deceased offender’s operations.
Recently resurfaced memos from the Department of Justice and the FBI stirred the pot again, as they included mentions of a client list associated with Epstein. There’s also ongoing speculation about the circumstances surrounding his death, which many have labeled as a probable suicide.
This memo rekindled controversy within Trump’s inner circle, with remarks from influential figures like Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon. Initially, Trump dismissed the uproar as a “hoax,” attributing it to the “radical left Democrats.” In the House, many Democrats were also entangled in debates as they sought to push for the release of Epstein-related documents.
Last week, Trump called for the disclosure of grand jury testimonies regarding Epstein, but ultimately the decision rests with the courts.
Interestingly, this predicament seems to be one of the few occasions where Trump faced backlash from his own party’s more vocal MAGA supporters. Nevertheless, as he pointed out, recent polls indicate that his backing among Republicans remains quite solid.
In a recent CBS News/YouGov Survey, respondents showed a divided stance on the Epstein issue—50% approved of Trump’s handling of the situation, while 49% disapproved. Among those identifying as MAGA Republicans, 60% expressed satisfaction with his response, contrasting with just 41% approval from non-MAGA Republicans.
Despite this, a notable 54% of Republican voters concluded that the Epstein affair isn’t much of an issue regarding Trump’s standing as president. On the other hand, 11% believe it carries some significance.
Looking at the broader landscape, Trump’s overall approval rating outside the GOP wavered around 45.5%, with a disapproval rate sitting at 52.1%, echoing the complexities of public sentiment in light of his ongoing controversies.
