Omar Fateh Receives Democratic Support for Minneapolis Mayor

Omar Fatte Officially Approved as Minneapolis Mayor Candidate

Omar Fatte has officially received the endorsement of the Democratic Farm Labour Party (DFL) as of Saturday, securing his path to become the mayor of Minneapolis.

Fatte has expressed support for the current Democratic mayor, Jacob Frey. Minneapolis news outlet Kare 11 reported this development.

In his statement, Fatte conveyed his gratitude for being a candidate endorsed by the DFL, emphasizing the importance of addressing broken promises and political challenges faced by Minneapolis residents. He stated, “It’s our responsibility to create a city that serves everyone.”

He also urged voters to unite around a common vision for Minneapolis, one where housing is considered a human right, and public safety involves the right response teams. “We must have a government that represents workers rather than corporate interests,” he added.

Fatte’s campaign echoes that of Zoran Mamdani, who recently clinched the Democratic primary for mayor in New York City. Interestingly, both candidates share similar platforms. In a prior announcement, Fatte emphasized his dedication to championing community rights.

Like Mamdani, Fatte is critical of the federal administration, stating that he would prohibit the Minneapolis Police Department from collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He asserted, “Our communities deserve a leader who stands firm against the injustices imposed by this administration.”

Fatte, a resident of Stevens Square, highlighted his personal experience as a full-time worker, aiming to keep more money in the hands of locals. He advocates for raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour and implementing rent stabilization measures by 2028.

Interestingly, Mamdani is pushing for a $30 minimum wage along with government programs like free grocery stores and bus services. Minneapolis elections utilize ranked-choice voting, making DFL endorsement significant—without it, candidates often struggle for support. Frey’s campaign has criticized the endorsement process for favoring Fatte, indicating that the election should reflect the will of the entire city, not just a select few.

The general election in Minneapolis is set for November 4th.
